25 Mar Time to relax…
When you’re feeling stressed and worried, it can feel like the whole world is against you. By exploring relaxation, you can help look after yourself when you have those pressured feelings. Why not take a moment to have a look at these tips and ideas to see how you can fit relaxation into your daily life.
Some ideas will work for you, some won’t, however, if you find something that works for you, just enjoy it 😊
- As Kit Kat would say, “Take a break”
Believe it or not, relaxation doesn’t have to take up lots of your time – it all depends on you. If you find yourself in a stressful situation, take a moment to step away for a few minutes. Also taking time away from your normal routines and thoughts can give you enough space and distance to feel calmer.
If you’re short on time, how about reading a book or a magazine, even if it’s only for a few minutes? If you’ve got a bit more time, run yourself a bath, watch a film or try out a new recipe that you’ve been dying to try!
- And breathe…
Teaching yourself to breathe more deeply and slower helps you to feel a lot calmer. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth, keep your shoulders relaxed and down. If it helps you can always count as your breathe too.
- Step outside to the great outdoors…
Spending time outside in green spaces, in the fresh air with the wind blowing through your hair, is great for your physical and mental health! Literally blowing the cobwebs away!
Plan a walk in the countryside or take a stroll through your local park. Take the time to notice the birds singing, the wildlife and the flowers / plants you see on the way and appreciate that quiet time.
You could also find your local conservation project, getting out into the local countryside, meeting new people – helping to preserve those green spaces around you.
- Check your tech
In this busy world we live in, technology is great for keeping you connected, however if you’re using it a lot then it can contribute to making you feel busy and stressed!
Take a break and enjoy that kit kat, how about switching off your phone for an hour, or a whole day if you can. Or how about only answering emails or checking your social media between certain times of the day. Step away from watching the tv. How about after 9pm at night you put your phone down for the day?
In the time you’re not using your tech, why not try some of the ideas above and enjoy something relaxing?
- Active and relaxation
Being relaxed and enjoying relaxation doesn’t have to mean sitting still – exercise can help too! Go for a walk and at your own pace, in just a few minutes of walking you’ll feel instantly relaxed. If you’re at work, you could always go for a walk during your lunch break or how about setting up a walking group after work with your colleagues? Yoga & pilates is perfect for relaxation and also does your core muscles good too!
- Get creative
Get in touch with your artistic side. Why not take the time out to learn a new skill, painting, drawing, making crafts, playing a musical instrument, dancing, baking or sewing.
- Listen to music
Music can relax you, connect you to your emotions and distract you from worrying thoughts. Do you have favourite songs? Listen to them, crank up the volume and dance around the house whilst singing along, or if you fancy a quieter moment with music, pop your headphones on and close your eyes.
- Imagine yourself in your favourite place
If you can’t physically get away, let your imagination transport you to somewhere you feel calm – memories from a previous holiday, your favourite place? Think of somewhere relaxing and peaceful, let your mind drift away and your body relax.
- Enjoy a massage
If you can find the time, a massage is the perfect way to relax while someone literally kneads, pummels and rubs the stress out of you. You will be surprised at how rejuvenated you feel afterwards!
