We work long hours and have busy lives – so how do we fit in physical activity, even just for 10 minutes?

It’s important that you take time out to refresh, relax and re-energise with a boost of physical activity to get the best out of your working day.

Here’s some quick tips that you can bring into your day to get you moving and raise your heart-rate:

Motivation…

Are you struggling to find your motivation and get going?  Why not join a class or club?  It’s amazing how being in a group can help you get motivated, it’s also a great way to meet you people.  Perfect way to relax after a long day at work too!  If you need some moral support, take a friend with you.

Positive Thinking…

The power of positive thinking.  Make sure you celebrate any progress, however small.  As long as you are making progress, however big or small – you are moving forward!

Struggling to switch off?

Running or swimming, any solo sports like these are a great way for you to get some time to yourself, to think things over, away from the stresses that come from professional and personal life.

Take your time…

Build your exercise up gradually.  Doing too much exercise at once can make stress worse or you could cause injury.  Set achievable, measurable goals to challenge yourself whilst you build your strength and fitness up?

Step out into the great outdoors…

Spending time outside in green spaces, in the fresh air with the wind blowing through your hair, is great for your physical health! Literally blowing the cobwebs away!

Enjoy a bike ride or go a walk in the countryside. Take the time to notice the birds singing, the wildlife and the flowers / plants you see on the way and appreciate that quiet time. 

Short on time?

Ask yourself do you need to use your car?  Why not enjoy a walk to the school gates to drop the kids off or start your day by walking to work?  Just a 10 minute brisk walk will do you the world of good, fresh air and exercise!  Even after a few days – you’ll notice the difference!

Most of all enjoy it!

Enjoy any exercise you do – otherwise, you’ll get bored, won’t enjoy it and the won’t bother doing it!  Do the exercise you want to, for as long as you want too – as long as it’s fun and makes you smile!  Why not have a ball game with the dog and run around the garden with them?  Dance around the house to your favourite songs?  Do a spot of gardening?  Enjoy a stroll with friends!

And after all that physical activity, enjoy a massage 😊
